Ways to Boost Your Immune System

Make sure you’re getting some physical activity each day, even if it’s just walking around the block or standing at your desk while you work during the day.

Physical activity is a powerful way to flush bacteria out of your lungs, helping you fight off a cold, flu, or viruses. In addition, your internal temperature increases while you move, helping your body fight any infection you might have. If you feel too busy, find small ways you can incorporate more exercise into your daily routine. Find a before-bed yoga that helps you stretch and relax. Or bike to work or the store instead of driving. Take your dog for a 20–30 minute walk or take your kids to the park. While it’s important to eat your fruits and veggies, you also get important vitamins and minerals from nuts, meat, poultry, fish, legumes, and whole grains. If you’re not sure where to start, try to swap foods that are heavily processed with whole foods — like fruits, grains, yogurts, and vegetables — and you’ll start to notice a difference in things like your energy, focus, and immune system.
