WHAT IS PHYSICAL THERAPY?
The main goal of physical therapy is to optimize and rehabilitate mobility. When we're born, the vast majority of people have a full range of motion. However, over time, our bodies will lose some of that natural mobility due to the natural aging process, injuries, and poor ergonomics. Physical therapists are highly-trained healthcare professionals who assess, diagnose, and treat individuals' mobility conditions in order to help them recover and continue to live well.
Senara Health and Healing Center & Med Spa in Peoria offers experienced and compassionate physical therapists who are committed to helping you with your rehabilitation. We believe and practice holistic healing and offer individualized treatment plans. Schedule your appointment today!

This allows the Senara team to tailor treatment and provide individualized care to better help your specific injury or ailment.
Chronic Pain Treatment
Do you experience neck or back pain from sitting at a desk all day? Or maybe you have an injury that still causes problems, even after having surgery to correct the problem. Chronic pain, the medical term for ongoing or lasting pain, plagues many across Peoria and around the world. Whether the cause is a health disorder like Fibromyalgia or the lingering effects of an injury, chronic pain can have major impacts on your life. Because the root issue is often related to neuromuscular strains and imbalances,, or it is related to inflammation or dysfunctional nerves, chronic pain can be difficult to treat with medication or surgery.
Fortunately, physical therapy techniques can provide the muscle and joint strengthening necessary to help relieve pain and help even lingering injuries or issues heal. The difference comes in that we combine physical therapy with chiropractic techniques, which focus specifically on spinal alignment, muscle strength and conditioning, joint health, and the nervous system. Because your central nervous system is so integrated into your spine, issues with the neck and back can cause pain that radiates into other parts of the body. Providing back pain treatment and a focus on spinal alignment may provide the healing to reduce or remove pain in the back, but it can also provide relief elsewhere in the body. Each physical therapy session will work to strengthen the areas of your body that need it, to help heal and prevent the pain from returning. Before you undergo surgery to correct your ongoing pain, see if muscle strengthening, massage therapy, spinal decompression, and other physical therapy treatments can provide the relief you seek naturally.
Acute Issues
As with chronic concerns, many acute pain issues can be alleviated with the assistance of physical therapy. Sometimes, the source of acute pain may have an obvious cause, such as an auto accident or a sports injury. Just as often, however, acute pain can arise from the onset of a herniated disc, sciatica, or simply moving through your daily life. Before you rush to the surgeon and contemplate going under the scalpel to ease your pain, or before you rely on heavy narcotics to temporarily mask symptoms, visit the team at Senara Health. We use a range of services in conjunction with physical therapy to soothe pain and heal injuries without medication or invasive surgery.
If you’ve been injured and you need surgery, don’t let that deter you from seeking the help of the Senara Health team. We often work with clients both before and after surgery to help the body heal and grow stronger. Be honest and open with your doctor about your pain and everything else surrounding your health, and we will do our best to tailor our treatments in line with your body’s needs for lasting health and well-being.
Healing Neck and Back Pain
Physical therapy is not limited to major injuries and ongoing pain. Our techniques focus on spinal and nerve care, so physical therapy can be just as useful against minor sports injuries as it can help healing after an auto accident. Even something as seemingly small as poor posture can cause pain that radiates through your back and into your limbs. With physical therapy sessions combined with chiropractic care, we can ease your spine and joints back into proper alignment, soothe aching muscles, and help your body build up strength for ongoing well-being.
No matter what the cause of your back or neck pain, physical therapy and chiropractic care can offer healing, not just pain relief. At Senara, our goal is to help provide that relief naturally, with non-invasive techniques. Because of this, it means we can help with a wide range of different back injury causes, including:
- Sports and fitness injuries
- Poor posture issues
- Auto and personal injuries
- Pregnancy aches and pain
- Stress-induced discomfort
- Arthritis, fibromyalgia, and other
- Muscle or ligament strains
- Bulging discs, sciatica
This is, by no means, a comprehensive list of all the neck and back pain causes that we can help. At Senara Health and Healing Center & Spa, our focus for every treatment is your individual needs.

Recovering From Accidents Naturally
In the initial moments after a minor auto accident, it is fairly common to feel perfectly normal, if somewhat shaken up. However, if you wake up the next morning with a stiff neck and aching back, you could be feeling the effects of whiplash. While many people assume that the pain will go away as unexpectedly as it appeared, that is generally not the case. If the auto accident affected your spinal alignment, that minor fender bender could leave you with chronic pain that lingers for months or years.
Auto & Personal Injury
Auto injuries often cause problems in the areas of the body that are most likely to spark pain both locally and throughout your body: the neck, shoulders, and back. Your central nervous system is deeply tied into your spine’s well being, so even a slight misalignment can cause pain to radiate throughout other parts of your body. And, unfortunately, auto accidents can cause your spine and joints to come out of alignment easily when your body is jolted or jerked during the impact. In addition to alignment issues, auto accidents can also cause strains or other soft tissue damage—soft tissue meaning muscle, ligaments, tendons, and other parts of your body that connect and support your bones and organs. All of this adds up to explain the reason you still feel pain, even weeks or months after an auto accident.
Likewise, personal injury can often have lingering results that you may not be able to see. Personal injury is a term that encapsulates a wide range of different injury causes, but generally refers to injury to your person caused by someone else’s actions or negligence. This includes problems derived from repetitive actions (like carpal tunnel), or injury from external forces (like slipping on a patch of ice). Many of these causes work similarly to auto accidents in that they are jarring enough to send your bones and joints out of alignment or strain muscle. It’s why you may feel pain without any visible signs like bruising.
Caring For Elbow and Shoulder Pain
As technology improves and becomes more accessible, workplaces become ever more connected. In terms of sharing ideas and collaborating across the globe, that’s not a bad thing. However, that does also mean more people spending eight hours a day sitting at their computer. Without proper ergonomic care, that can lead to a range of different problems like poor posture and carpal tunnel. How much more difficult would your day be, if you couldn’t use one of your hands for a while because of a preventable injury?
Something as innocuous as carpal tunnel may not seem like a big deal, but when it affects your ability to do your job, cook meals, and all the other things you do throughout the day, that minor issue becomes a big deal. And, unfortunately, working at a computer all day is one of the major causes behind shoulder, elbow, and hand pain.
Shoulder and Elbow Pain
A bit of a twinge in your shoulder can be brushed off pretty easily. However, that slight twinge can be a sign of deeper problems that could end up affecting the entire arm, as well as your neck and back. Shoulder and elbow injuries are particularly common in athletes, both teenagers and adults, as well as anyone who does physical or repetitive jobs. Yes, the repetitive nature of a job includes sitting at a computer and typing all day. What this means is something as seemingly harmless as sitting at your desk and doing your job can cause shoulder and/or elbow pain if you aren’t taking measures to care for your body. Your shoulder, arm, and hand are all linked to a bundle of nerves called the brachial plexus, which extend through your upper shoulder and lower neck. The brachial plexus not only controls how your arms feel sensations, but also how they move. What this may mean is that you could have an issue with your neck or shoulder, and you may feel pain from that issue in your hand. Conversely, a problem in your forearm or elbow could radiate out and feel stronger in your shoulder.
Fortunately, a lot of the most common causes of shoulder and elbow problems can be prevented or healed before they become a major issue. If you work at a computer, this can include things like ensuring your desk and chair are set up ergonomically to provide support specific to your body. In addition, chiropractic visits can help ensure your joints and spine are all in proper alignment and physical therapy can help strengthen those supporting muscles. Of course, our care is not limited to those who work at a computer all day. Our treatments work to help the whole body function well without the use of medications or invasive surgeries, so they are just as appropriate for athletes and those who have physically demanding jobs. Whether you work at a desk or out doing physical labor, physical therapy is a great option to not only treat aches and pains, but to prevent problems from developing.
Better Performance Through Chiropractic Care
If you track any professional sports team—maybe the Cardinals or the Cubs, for those of you here in Peoria—you understand that injuries are fairly common throughout the professional sports world. Strength training, cardio, practices, and games all add up to a lot of work that an athlete pushes their body through, and all that work can eventually lead to issues. Of course, sports injuries are not limited to professional athletes. They are just as common among adolescent athletes and adults who play for fun.
The term “shin splints” can bring up some very visceral images for any athlete. While shin splints are an unpleasant feeling, pulled muscles and torn tendons are even worse. Athletes of all types work their bodies hard, and that hard work can translate into damage to muscles and joints. Heating, icing, and stretching are a good start toward caring for hard-worked muscles, but that may not always be enough to prevent injury. Physical therapy can provide the necessary care to help your sports injuries heal, reduce pain, improve joint mobility, and help prevent future problems.
Physical Therapy For Athletes
Muscle injuries are the most common category of injury athletes are likely to experience. One of the trickiest aspects of any training regimen is finding the happy balance between pushing yourself enough to see improvements and pushing so hard you pull a muscle or tear a ligament. The only way to improve your endurance, build muscle, or otherwise improve your performance as an athlete is to push your body a bit more during each workout. However, muscle injuries are tricky because they are fairly unpredictable. Providing your joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons with proper care can help reduce the likelihood of injuries that will slow down or halt your progress. Senara owner, Dr. Kramer, is an athlete himself, so injury prevention and healing is a key focus for our physical therapy and chiropractic team. Here’s a bit about how we can help athletes of all ages and skill levels in the Peoria area:
